چکیده

PC-based modeling activity by end-users, used for decision support, is dependent upon information from other models and sources outside the functional unit. Consequently, there is a need for coordination of the various functional unit models that comprise the distributed decision support system. To the extent that the information sharing among these models is timely, current and correct, the resultant outputs of the models will be vastly improved. This article investigates coordination issues of end-user models with a focus on how such coordination affects cycle time of the organizational decision process. The article first discusses the various types of model interdependence and then presents a coordination strategy for accommodating each interdependence type. Significant cycle time reduction in organizational decision making processes can be achieved through use of one or more of the proposed coordination strategies. The PC-based modeling activity by end-users is one of the most significant contemporary developments in organizational computing. It is known that productivity of individual decision makers is improved as PC-based modeling tools allow users to make more decisions within the constraints of cognitive, time and economic limits. The productivity improvement of individual decision makers has been a main focus of decision support systems research (Bostrom et al., 1990; Rivad et al., 1988; Sein et al., 1987) under the assumption that maximum performance of individual decision making ensures maximum performance of collective organizational decision making.

Coordination of Pricing, Ordering, and Lead time Decisions in a Manufacturing Supply Chain

In this paper, an incentive policy is proposed to coordinate ordering, lead time, and pricing strategies in a two-echelon manufacturing supply chain (SC) consisting of one manufacturer and one retailer. The system is faced with a stochastic demand which depends on both price and lead time. The manufacturer decides on production size and manufacturing acceleration rate while the retailer determi...

A BI-LEVEL LINEAR MULTI-OBJECTIVE DECISION MAKING MODEL WITH INTERVAL COEFFICIENTS FOR SUPPLY CHAIN COORDINATION

Bi-level programming, a tool for modeling decentralized decisions, consists of the objective(s) of the leader at its first level and that is of the follower at the second level. Three level programming results when second level is itself a bi-level programming. By extending this idea it is possible to define multi-level programs with any number of levels. Supply chain planning problems are co...

Software Development and Testing: A System Dynamics Simulation and Modeling Approach

Software-development and testing is a complex activity that often shows signs of contradicting instinctive activities, in that outcomes can vary drastically with deliberate consequences. Software-development and testing has many complexities, including dynamic behavior and feedback mechanisms, as well as various interacting factors. System dynamics is a modeling methodology that is well suited ...

Supply Chain Coordination through Lead Time Crashing in a Socially Responsible Supply Chain Considering Transportation Modes and Carbon Emissions Tax

In this paper, a socially responsible supply chain consisting of one supplier and one retailer is proposed. The supplier decides on replenishment cycle multiplier and the retailer invests in corporate social responsibility (CSR) and decides on the order-up-to-level under a periodic review replenishment policy. The retailer’s decisions impact on the supplier’s probability as well as the supply c...

Integrated production-Inventory model with price-dependent demand, imperfect quality, and investment in quality and inspection

In practice, manufacturing systems are never perfect and may have low quality outputs. Therefore, different decisions such as reprocessing, sale at lower prices or diminishing are made according to industry and market. This paper investigates the importance of supply chain coordination through developing two models in centralized decision-making for an imperfect quality manufacturing system wit...
